ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER

Job Description for 6th-8th Grade Classroom Teacher

Position: 6th-8th Grade Classroom Teacher with emphasis on Science and Social Studies (1FTE)

Supervision:

Classroom Teachers fall under the primary direction of the Principal

Job Goal:

The Dixon School District Classroom Teacher serves as the classroom instructor for all students. This individual is responsible for the delivery of general instruction in accordance with district curriculum and state standards. The individual should also be ready to use research-based best practices to ensure that students have learned and can apply clearly defined skills and concepts. The 6th-8th Grade teaching team will divide the curricular area responsibilities including: Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Art, and Physical Education.

Team Approach:

Dixon School District utilizes a collaborative approach to providing a quality education to students and continually improving its educational program. The Classroom Teacher is responsible for delivering the appropriate content utilizing research-based best practices, ensuring students have learned the material, and also implementing interventions when students do not learn. The Classroom Teacher works primarily with their intermediate team teacher and special education teacher to develop assessments, analyze student achievement data, and respond to the academic needs of students.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently, and professionally with colleagues and parents
  • Knowledge of Indian Education for All concepts, and familiarity with IEFA integration into the classroom
  • Ability to manage daily classroom routines and student behavior in a multi-age setting
  • Ability to continually review student progress toward defined goals, communicate progress to students, parents and team teachers
  • Understanding of curriculum components, district curriculum, state and national standards for elementary education
  • Ability to plan lessons, prepare lesson plans, and align teaching with curricular goals in a multi-age setting
  • Familiarity with fundamental assessment approaches; both formative and summative
  • Technologically proficient with word processing, email, and other technology skills essential to success in the job, as well as willingness to learn about and integrate ever-changing technological tools and approaches utilized in providing quality instruction to students

Essential Specific Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements: Other duties may be assigned

  • Adheres to, supports and strives to attain the school district mission and vision
  • Collaborates with the principal and other staff in setting goals that lead to improved student achievement and personal/ professional growth
  • Interacts with students in a constructive manner to encourage individuals to perform at their highest levels
  • Prepares supply order requisitions for the 5th-8th grade program components
  • Participates in curriculum update and review, textbook/materials selection, and relevant Montana Behavioral Initiative (MBI) collaborations
  • Participates in district-wide activities, in-services, and committees as appropriate
  • Maintains current educational certificate requirements.
  • Serves as a reliable and professional representative of Dixon School District at all times

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Elementary Education with appropriate certifications/endorsements and background knowledge required to teach in the elementary setting
  • Successful teaching experience or pre-service internship experience
  • Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements (as necessary)

Salary: DOE, $32,782 Base w/Cash benefit option with proof of insurance

Part-Time School Custodian

Dixon School is NOW hiring a part-time twelve month custodian (Please share with anyone you feel would be a good candidate!)

Duties and responsibilities include maintaining and cleaning school building and grounds, turning on/off alarm systems and assist teachers/students as needed. Reports to Lead Custodian and/or Principal.

Qualifications: must have a valid Montana drivers license, be physically able to work, move or carry objects or materials, and provide a current background check. A Montana Low Pressure Boiler Engineer’s License not required but would be beneficial.

Salary: Dependent on experience and licensure

Summer hours: 30 hours/week (schedule negotiable)

School-year hours: 20 - 25 hours/week (3:30 PM - 7:30 PM M/T/W/Tr and 2:30 PM - 6:30 PM Friday)

The current rate for substitute teachers at Dixon School is $85.00/day for certified teachers and $80.00/day for staff not holding a current teaching certificate.

A fingerprint background check is also required. You can find more information about the process here. Fingerprint cards can be completed at the Polson Police Department (106 First Street East Polson, Montana 59860), Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. They are closed from noon until 1:00 P.M. for lunch. If you have a current Montana teaching certificate you are not required to submit a new background check until your licence renewal is completed.

If an applicant has any prior record of arrest or conviction by any local, state, or federal law enforcement agency for an offense other than a minor traffic violation, the facts must be reviewed by the Superintendent, who shall decide whether the applicant shall be declared eligible for appointment or employment or selection to be placed on the on-call substitute list. Arrests resolved without conviction shall not be considered in the hiring/selection process unless the charges are pending.
